A long-range night vision security camera built for exposed locations

Two views of an Axis Q6215-LE with a port in the backgroundDesigned to meet exacting military standards, the Axis Q6215-LE is a heavy-duty outdoor pan-tilt-zoom model. Ideal for surveillance in demanding situations like airports and harbours, which requires detailed CCTV footage, high controllability and powerful 30x optical zoom.

This advanced camera enables 24-hour surveillance over long distances thanks to its innovative features. More on these later…

What makes the Q6215-LE different?

Firstly, that unusual form factor. As you’re facing it the left-hand side includes a ½” sensor and the right side contains long-distance 400m OptimisedIR, ensuring the view is evenly lit at night at all zoom levels.

This design helps to mitigate one of the issues of in-built infrared, namely insects. Drawn to light, insects including spiders can move across the lens, obscuring the view. By siting the illumination away from the sensor, this reduces the chance of obstructions on the lens.

Another unusual feature is the integrated silicone wiper. This handy feature helps to remove dirt or rain on the lens to keep images clear in a variety of weather conditions. To see it in action, take a look at the video below.

The rugged design enables it to withstand extreme weather including up to 152mph winds. This model also contains Arctic Temperature Control, a new technology that enables the camera to start in temperatures as low as -40°. While hurricane force winds or arctic temperatures may not be a daily occurrence, it’s reassuring to know the Q6215-LE can withstand them.

As you’d expect with this ultra-robust camera, the casing is IK10-rated vandal-resistant and impact resistant, as well as having IP66/IP68 ingress ratings.

High performance pan tilt zoom capability

The Axis Q6215-LE also packs a punch underneath the hood. High quality footage is produced from HD 1080p recording at 60fps. As the video demonstrates, it also has a 360⁰ pan and the ability to look up or down by 20⁰ (mount dependent).

With a powerful 30x optical zoom, investigating details in an area of interest is made easy. Combined with the 400m IR illumination, this camera enables large site surveillance at all times of the day or night, and in all weather conditions.

The length of IR illumination is unusually long:

Outdoor PTZ model Length of IR
Samsung Wisenet SNP-L6233RH 100m
Axis P3717-PLE 15m
Bosch AUTODOME IP 5000i 150m
Vivotek SD9364-EHL 150m
LILIN PSR5024EX 150m
Axis Q6125-LE 200m
Axis Q8685-LE 500m
Bosch MIC (Metal Mickey) 450m (optional extra)
Panasonic WV-SUD638 150m (optional extra)

To make the most of this, the Q6215-LE uses innovative OptimisedIR. This built-in camera intelligence adapts the angle of illumination when you zoom, to keep the scene evenly illuminated.

What is very useful on this camera is the 256 pre-set positions which can be configured in the Axis Camera Station VMS. This enables your security system to work smarter by moving to the Q6215-LE to a specified position after a trigger or action rule.

Other handy features

  • Mounting flexibility
The included mounting plate allows the mount to be either above or below the unit and makes the Q6215-LE safer and easier to install in either the up or down position
  • Zipstream
An Axis technology which helps to lower bandwidth and storage requirements by up to 50%, while ensuring that important details are retained in the video stream
  • Axis Guard Suite analytics pre-installed
This includes the Axis Fence, Motion and Loitering guard applications which makes it simple to set up triggers and alerts

To sum up

The tough Axis Q6215-LE is a ‘metal mickey’-type camera built to withstand extreme weather while still delivering fast and smooth panning, tilting and powerful zooming performance. The powerful image sensor and up to 400m of infrared illumination provide advanced, high quality views day or night.

Ideal for demanding surveillance applications in exposed areas such as ports or on large site perimeters, the Q6215-LE is available now.
