Best selling IP camera highlights for 2016

List of the Best selling IP cameras for 2016Looking back at 2016, it was an interesting year in the IP camera market with a surge of interest in Hikvision cameras (despite some controversial press coverage on the Chinese brand) and the response of other brands to this rise in popularity. We saw brands such as Axis release a flurry of new products during the latter part of 2016 and our Bosch camera category also grew exponentially with new high quality units. New 4K resolution cameras continued to appear through 2016 and whilst the adoption of this resolution has been slow, we can see that advances in compression technology and hardware accelerated image processing is helping make 4K more viable while users wait for network infrastructure and available bandwidth to catch up.

All in all, the selection of IP cameras available for customers to choose from has probably never been greater. To help you narrow down your choice of IP camera at the start of 2017, we’ve highlighted some of our best selling cameras of 2016, drawing attention to the main features and technology that made them the go-to model for many of our customers.

LILIN LD2222E4 indoor mini-dome network camera

The LD2222E4 is a highly capable and affordable indoor mini-dome camera with a compact form factor which makes it perfect for unobtrusive surveillance. While this camera is a low-cost model, it still possesses helpful features such as SenseUp Plus technology which increases the camera’s low-light sensitivity and reduces the need for external lighting. Add to this, wide dynamic range technology and 3D noise reduction and this offering from LILIN more than holds its own amongst other cameras at this price point. Throughout 2016 it was a very cost-effective option for deployment in small shops, receptions areas and office spaces – we expect to see plenty more being sold this year.

Axis M1125-E: classic outdoor static

Axis M1125-E outdoor fixed varifocal IP camera

The M1125-E, with its traditional styled casing, does not make it discreet, but for many applications that’s exactly what’s needed. This great value model has been a go-to camera for many customers during 2016 where the overt presence of CCTV to act as a deterrent is just as important as reliable surveillance. The M1125-E is equipped with a varifocal lens which allows the user to adjust the field of view and offers the flexibility to be deployed in a wide range of locations. When you combine that with full HD 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second, IR-cut filter, Forensic Capture technology and an IP66/IK10 rated casing, you can see why this camera has become one of our most popular products.

Hikvision DS-2DE5220IW-AE: outdoor PTZ with 150m IR

Hikvision DS-2DE5220IW-AE outdoor PTZ IP camera

The second Hikvision camera in our list of highlights is a true day/night outdoor PTZ that features IR illumination with a maximum range of 150m and Smart IR to prevent overexposure of objects or persons close to the camera. You’ll struggle to find this level of integrated illumination in another mid-range PTZ camera around the £500 mark. The unit also features endless 360° pan and variable pan/tilt speeds allowing swift and precise navigation throughout a large area. With intelligent video features such as video motion detection, WDR and noise reduction also on board, it’s no surprise this camera was so popular with buyers on a budget during 2016.

Axis P1428-E: outdoor 4K bullet

Axis P1428-E 4K ultra HD resolution outdoor bullet IP camera

Axis makes the list of best sellers again, with a 4K network camera from their high quality P14 series. 2016 saw more 4K resolution cameras being released and this model from Axis was among the top choices for customers seeking for a camera that can produce highly detailed images. The P1428-E records in stunning 4K ultra HD at up to 30fps and has a digital auto tracking feature that enables accurate monitoring of large areas by automatically detecting objects, zooming in and following those objects to track activity. Images have enhanced clarity with P-iris control and with a 3x optical zoom, close-up footage retains its high quality. An automatic IR-cut filter allows the camera to continue recording at night, switching to black and white as darkness falls so this unit is suitable for 24 hour surveillance. We expect more 4K cameras to be released in the year ahead but in the meanwhile, this model will undoubtedly remain a popular choice.

Bosch AUTODOME IP 5000: outdoor PTZ with 180m IR

Bosch AUTODOME IP 5000 outdoor PTZ

When an advanced PTZ is needed for use in demanding applications, then the Bosch AUTODOME IP 5000 has been one of the most popular options. This is not surprising as this model has a wealth of features that cover all the bases, delivering HD 1080p resolution at full frame rate – 24 hours a day. A 30x optical zoom and 16x digital zoom means that a person or incident can be monitored closely over a large area. Clearer low-light images are produced using Bosch’s dynamic noise reduction technology which additionally lowers bandwidth usage by up to 50%. Night time recording is enhanced with optional integrated IR illuminators that allow for up to 180m of night vision, while infrared intensity is automatically adjusted according to zoom levels – ensuring the scene is evenly illuminated. Situational awareness is maximised by using alarms that can trigger certain tasks such as starting a guard tour, or moving focus of the camera to one of the 256 configurable pre-set locations. With all these features and more, we’re certain this camera will continue to be deployed in hospitals, universities and city surveillance in 2017.

It was no surprise to see many of these models appearing as best sellers during 2016. The list reflects the continued popularity of Axis and the growth we’ve seen in Bosch and Hikvision during the last year. The interesting entry we didn’t see coming was the LILIN LD2222E4 and we’re pleased about that because it shows there are still plenty of options out there for very capable and affordable IP cameras from brands other than Hikvision.

The rapid take-up of Hikvision’s low cost IP cameras has prompted many IP camera manufacturers to raise their game and ensure they remain competitive. This is a positive reaction and we look forward to seeing what new development 2017 brings.
