Set up a Door Access Control System

Setting up an access control system for a single door using hardware and software involves integrating several key components to ensure secure and efficient entry management. First, a network door controller is installed near the door, serving as the system's central hub. This controller connects to both the door's magnetic lock (maglock) and a compatible reader or keypad. The reader is positioned at the door and is used to scan access credentials, like key fobs or access cards. The maglock, which holds the door securely shut, is wired to the controller, allowing it to release when an allowed credential is presented.

The entire system is configured and managed through access control management software such as AXIS Secure Entry, Paxton Net2 Pro or Morphean Cloud. Within the software, administrators can register users, assign access rights to specific fobs, and set schedules or access rules. When a user presents their fob to the reader, the controller verifies the credential against its database. If authorised, the controller signals the maglock to disengage, allowing entry. The system can also provide real-time event logs, integration with video surveillance systems, and remote access management for enhanced security.

When someone scans their fob, inputs their code or tries to gain access in another way, the door controller receives this input and verifies access, it then controls the lock(s) on the door(s) as necessary. The door controllers we offer are from AXIS Communications and are network-based, just like AXIS Cameras, so they can talk to one another, or be integrated into cloud platforms for true flexibility, interoperability, and remote access. Door controller types include controllers (or ACUs) for 1 door, 2 doors, 4 doors, 8 doors or more and using a combination of these ACU types you can cover from very small to very large buildings.
