Milestone eases analogue-to-IP migration path

May 30th, 2014 by Frank Crouwel

Milestone XProtect VMSA big change from Milestone Systems: with the release of Milestone XProtect 2014 last week comes a significant change to the number of licenses required when using video encoders to migrate from analogue to IP. Previously, a Milestone XProtect camera license was required for each encoded video channel. For example, a video encoder with say 16 analogue cameras connected to it would require 16 Milestone XProtect device licenses. This is no longer the case.

With Milestone XProtect 2014 only one camera license is needed per video encoder IP address, regardless of the number of analogue cameras connected to it. This generates big savings on Milestone licensing costs and makes it easier for organisations to make decisions to start migrating from analogue CCTV to and IP-based system with its many advantages.

Important to note is that a video encoder may have multiple IP addresses in which case multiple camera licenses may be required per video encoder. As it may not always be clear how many IP addresses a video encoder has, we created a quick overview for some of the key video encoder brands. The green fields below indicate encoders that have benefited from the encoder license change:

We welcome Milestone’s decision to make the analogue-to-IP migration path less costly, allowing owners of traditional CCTV systems to bring their system into the connected world and benefit from easier access, use and management, all in all making their security system much more effective.
