A new generation of ‘go-to’ products from Axis

We know it can be difficult to choose the right camera for your needs with such an array of IP camera models available on the market. Luckily, Axis look to have you covered with their new generation of products which we feel are great ‘go-to’ choices.

In this post we’ll take a closer look at Axis’ latest ‘all-rounder’ cameras which expand their popular P32 and P14 ranges.

Specifically, we’ll discuss the features of the P3247/48 and P1455-LE models. The inclusion of Axis’ ARTPEC-7 chipset in each camera offers increased processing power which enables improved functionality of advanced imaging technologies, analytics and security features. As such, these versatile units are perfect for a host of applications in both indoor and outdoor locations – so let’s take a closer look at what they have to offer.

Clear images in any light

Over the years, Axis have developed a host of advanced imaging technologies that help their cameras provide clearer images – and a range of these are included in their new ‘go-to’ products.

One such technology is Lightfinder 2.0. Introduced in 2019, this technology provides sharper images with truer colours even in near darkness. As well as improved light sensitivity, Lightfinder 2.0 enables more accurate colour reproduction, improved white balance and finely tuned image processing. This can be particularly useful in venues like zoos where the ability to distinguish colours and details in lowlight helps with the monitoring of animals’ behaviour during the night.

Forensic WDR technology is also included and is Axis’ most advanced WDR technology. Its inclusion in these cameras enables the retention of image details with fewer motion artefacts in busy, high-contrast scenes. Similarly, motion-adaptive exposure helps to ensure sharp video by significantly reducing the motion blur from approaching or nearby objects. These technologies make the P3247/48 and P1455-LE models ideal choices in settings such as parking garages and at entrance doors –  allowing details to be better distinguished for identification purposes.

Operators often require reliable round-the-clock monitoring. This new generation has you covered on that front too with the inclusion of OptimisedIR technology. While some features of this technology are tailored to specific cameras and situations; others are always present, such as the fact it’s based on power-efficient LEDs with minimal heat dissipation. Illumination is also concentrated where it’s needed in the scene – not only helping to improve the clarity of night-time imaging but also keeping power usage levels relatively low.

Alongside resolutions between HD 1080p and 4K UHD, these imaging technologies make Axis’ latest ‘all-rounders’ an ideal choice for users who need a camera that can produce high-quality images in locations with demanding lighting conditions.

Intelligent analytics and security

Now let’s talk about how you can make use of these sharp, detailed images. These latest models really make the most of Axis’ wide range of analytics applications, including Guard Suite for efficient intrusion detection and more traditional video motion and tampering detection methodologies. This is particularly useful for high-security areas like airports and government buildings – allowing users to add an extra dimension to their security and surveillance operations.

The inclusion of the ARTPEC-7 chip also enables enhanced security features. Examples include signed firmware and secure boot which work to ensure only secured, authorised firmware is installed and booted – as well as Axis Edge Vault for secure device identification on your network.

If these features still aren’t enough for you; this latest generation of ‘go-to’ cameras also include Axis Object Analytics. This advanced technology utilises machine learning and deep learning techniques to detect and classify humans and vehicles, helping to minimise costly false alarms. It can also support multiple detection scenarios simultaneously so users can tailor their solution to even the most complex of applications. All of this smart functionality is illustrated in the short clip below.

With such a range of intelligent analytics and security features available the new P32 and P14 models can cater for a host of applications; from intrusion detection at airports to reducing false alarm rates at factory loading bays.

Easily add audio capability

Users can also complement video surveillance with audio recording. Two-way audio recording can be achieved with the P3247/48 models through external Axis T61 audio and I/O interfaces; while the P1455-LE features built-in audio I/O ports. This makes it easy for users to add audio capability if the situation calls for it, such as in reception areas or residential care homes.

The P1455-LE also includes edge-to-edge technology which facilitates the connection between Axis cameras and Axis speakers. The technology uses smart pairing of devices to enable users to connect an external speaker more easily without the two devices having to communicate one on one with the core of the system.

Simple, versatile installations

This generation of cameras includes multiple form factors with varying levels of ingress and weather protection – creating a versatile range of products to suit almost any application.

The P3247/48 range comprises both indoor and outdoor vandal-resistant fixed domes; while the P1455-LE offers users a compact, outdoor-ready fixed bullet. So, whether you need a hardy camera to withstand vandalism attempts on school grounds or an unobtrusive model for city surveillance – you’ll find something to suit your needs in this range.

All the cameras also include a varifocal lens with remote zoom and focus capabilities. This helps to simplify the installation process by allowing you to easily set the desired view during setup without the need for hands-on fine tuning.

Full-featured, cost-effective video surveillance

Axis’ latest generation of ‘go-to’ products offers users premium surveillance with a host of features available; ranging from advanced imaging technologies to the latest in video analytics.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find an application that these cameras can’t cater for.
