Companies looking for a convenient and cost-effective solution to video surveillance management may want to turn their gaze to SolidEDGE cameras from Hanwha Vision, offering a serverless CCTV system whereby the management application is run on the camera and data is stored directly to the rugged SSD storage on-board the camera too. Simply, the camera and the NVR are combined into a single device. This method does away with the need for NVRs or servers, resulting in reduced installation costs, lower overall running costs and freeing up space in server racks where a bulky server may have been located.
Rugged SSD storage for edge-based recording
The SolidEDGE camera range currently consists of two variants, the Hanwha Vision PNV-A6081R-E1T with 1TB internal storage, and the PNV-A6081R-E2T featuring 2TB. These wet weather and vandal-resistant domes come equipped with a 2MP sensor for HD 1080p video resolution, varifocal lens for adjustable viewing angles, integrated IR LEDs and video analytics enhanced by AI for reliable object detection and classification. In short, a well-featured camera that will suit the majority of applications.
Both SolidEDGE camera models come preinstalled with one channel licence for the user-friendly WAVE VMS platform, meaning users can access live views, record video and export footage straight out of the box. The WAVE desktop client offers full control of your surveillance system, with configurable features such as alarms, customisable views and third-party app integrations, whilst the mobile client app can be used for remote access, ideal for users on-the-go.
Flexible and extensible architecture
The more unique, and clever part of this concept is that each SolidEDGE camera essentially acts as a server, which can support the addition of up to five standard Hanwha Vision IP cameras. Thus, you can create a six camera system, comprising one Hanwha SolidEDGE camera and five standard Hanwha IP cameras.
Simply purchase an additional WAVE licence per camera, and the SolidEDGE camera will be ready to record from the camera that’s been added. This flexible architecture can be extended further, up to a 180-camera system, by using up to 30 SolidEDGE cameras, each individually supporting five standard IP cameras. The whole system is neatly managed via the cloud-based WAVE Sync platform, creating a complete system that can be accessed from anywhere via a single web login.
Is a SolidEDGE solution the right choice for your business?
Key considerations to decide whether SolidEDGE is right for you will be your storage requirements keeping in mind the 1TB and 2TB SSD drive sizes in the SolidEDGE devices, and, importantly, whether you deem it secure and safe to hang the core of your entire CCTV system on the outside of your building. We would not recommend this for vulnerable locations or for more critical security applications, but in protected areas and non-critical applications it could be a neat, simple solution that is easy to install and manage.
