Overview of the Axis Q8685-LE

This advanced PTZ positioning IP camera from Axis delivers HD 1080p resolution images round-the-clock at full frame rate. It offers full pan/tilt functionality and a 30x optical zoom to provide comprehensive CCTV monitoring in wide outdoor locations. The camera is also supplied with two powerful infrared (IR) LED illuminators which enhance night vision at a range of up to 500m. Additional features include edge storage, Axis’ Zipstream technology and support for focus recall.

When mounted onto a column or pole, this high-performance unit can deliver a full 360° unobstructed field of view and 135° ‘ground to sky’ tilt. It’s jerk-free, variable pan/tilt movements allow users to precisely navigate across large locations to areas of interest – ensuring all activity is captured. Focus recall is also included and improves PTZ performance by providing instant focus in predefined areas – even in difficult lighting. This handy feature removes the need to manually focus or wait for autofocus to adjust and is useful in scenarios that require a lot of manual operation using a joystick.

Equipped with two IR LED illuminators and a handful of diverging lenses, users are able to select the most suitable beam angle and distance to suit their illumination requirements. In addition, the unit’s IP66-rated aluminium housing makes it suitable for deployment in external areas and support for cold start-up ensures continuous operation in temperatures as low as -40°C. Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) is also supported to help reduce the effects of camera movement from wind or vibrations.

Video motion detection alarms can be configured to alert users of activity via notifications such as email. These alarms can also be used in combination with Axis’ Advanced Gatekeeper so that if motion is detected, the camera will automatically pan and zoom to a preset position. Users are also able to connect external alarm sources via the included I/O connector to help enhance alarm signalling.

Axis' Zipstream technology analyses and optimises the video stream in real-time, recording interesting detail in high quality, whilst filtering other areas out to reduce bandwidth and storage use. In addition, recordings can be written to the on-board SD card (not included) to provide a helpful backup of data if the network fails.
