Video Analytics, what you need to know

The use of AI-driven video analytics has been growing rapidly, and the number of video analytics vendors and products is huge. This has resulted in a fragmented, complex market, requiring expert knowledge to advice on compatibility and integration capabilities.

As a starting point it is important to recognise that many IP cameras we sell come with some video analytics on-board as standard. This can range from basic to advanced analytics, depending on brand and camera model. In addition to analytics already in the camera, most camera brands also offer free analytics apps or paid-for video analytics that can be added for more specific use cases, and there are technology partners who offer compatible video analytics products also.

It is these ‘additional’ video analytics from the camera brands and technology partners that we offer to you via this page.

Also, please be aware that analytics can be camera-based, server-based, cloud-based or NVR-based, or even a combination of these.

FAQs

Video Analytics refers to software that can automatically analyse live (mostly) video footage to detect and interpret events, objects, or patterns, all without needing someone to watch the video in real time. These classifications of events and objects are then used to raise alarms or trigger events. Intelligent Video Analytics (IVA) is a set of technologies that enable a camera system to perform the critical task of detecting and recognising situations and behaviours, speeding up processes and facilitating quick decision making.

Video Analytics has many use cases, such as in perimeter protection, health and safety, asset protection, and business intelligence, and can benefit businesses in many ways.

We work with proven technologies from trusted ecosystem partners, and we deliver analytics which generate proven outcomes and improvements. Contact us to find out how Video Analytics can help you.

Not all video analytics exist as apps that you can install in any camera. Some do, but a number of really useful video analytics come included with cameras specialised to the task. For example, we list cameras under Heat and Fire Detection as these cameras have the relevant detection apps built-in. We list these cameras when we consider that for their in-built apps to work correctly, these cameras should be used.
