The newest version of Milestone XProtect is now available, with the 2024 R1 variant delivering cybersecurity improvements and a range of advanced new features. In addition Milestone have added many codebase optimisations in preparation for further substantial changes coming soon. Read on to better understand the new features and how they could benefit your installation, with the majority being aimed at more experienced users operating on existing larger systems.

Management Client – Care reminder
The Care reminder helps bring attention to when the system's Care subscription plan is due to expire. When logging on to the Management Client, a pop-up notification appears twice – once 120 days before, and again 20 days before expiration, advising system integrators or administrators to act and renew, thus minimising operational costs, safeguarding the VMS and ensuring the system is always on.
Smart Client – Combined media player format
The new combined media player format aims to simplify internal video investigations, by offering quick export in a new format which creates a combined file containing all exported video sequences, one after the other. This format is playable in normal media player applications available on most platforms, in turn enabling operators to quickly share and report incidents for improved efficiency in reviewing and preventing critical events.
Web Client – Timeline in full-screen mode
Previously, timeline controls could only be accessed outside of full-screen mode. However now users can switch between live and playback and interact with timeline controls when viewing in full-screen across the views and investigation tabs for a streamlined user experience.
Mobile Client – Alarm support on Smart Maps
Beneficial for those on-the-go with remote access, users can now see if an alarm was triggered on a Smart Map using the Mobile Client. The location of an alarm stated as "new" will show on a Smart Map if it is associated with a specific camera.

Web and Mobile Client – Audit log of the logout system
The audit log keeps track of logout actions manually performed by operators, or those that occur due to connection closures caused by inactivity. This aims to increase auditability and traceability when it comes to logout actions.
XProtect Rapid REVIEW 2024 M1
A new Fast Track feature enables operators to swifty locate objects across adjacent or proximately positioned cameras, in turn speeding up investigations by utilising the camera geolocation setup in XProtect. Quickly search for a specific camera or a predefined group by tags such as “lower-level cameras”, enhancing the user-experience with a more intuitive interface. XProtect Rapid Review is an add-on to XProtect.
XProtect Hospital Assist, Multi-room Audio
Aimed at easing the workload for staff within the healthcare sector, this feature enables comprehensive remote overviews of multiple patient rooms simultaneously. Medical staff and carers can watch and listen to several patients and residents at once using a combination of live video, multi-room Audio and two-way communication. This helps nursing staff quickly spot if a patient is in distress, has a heavy cough, or has fallen. XProtect Hospital Assist is an add-on to XProtect.
