The Vivotek VS8102 is a compact video encoder which adds IP functionality, such as remote access or motion detection, to existing analogue surveillance equipment. The encoder features a female BNC video port allowing a single security camera or video source to be seen across a network. 2-Way audio is also built in, allowing viewers to communicate interactively with the site or warn intruders.

Video can be stored directly onto the video encoder using a standard SD/SDHC memory card, removing the need for external recording equipment and improving reliability. Recording and alerts can be triggered by viewers, motion detection or tampering detection, which can sense if the connected camera is moved, defocused or obscured and alert users to minimise downtime.

Power over Ethernet (PoE) support also provides the option of powering the encoder through the Ethernet connection, reducing cabling requirements, but is also supplied with a standard wall-socket power adapter. The server is also ONVIF compatible, meaning that it can be easily integrated with other third-party ONVIF-compliant security equipment.
