Overview of the Sony SNC-VM642R
This IP66-rated dome IP camera from Sony delivers smooth, HD 1080p resolution video at up to 60 frames per second (fps) – ideal for monitoring busy outdoor locations. True day/night recording is enhanced with built-in infrared (IR) LEDs, delivering clear night-time images up to a distance of 100m. The unit also features edge storage, an IK10-rated housing and can be easily installed via Power-over-Ethernet Plus (PoE+).
The varifocal lens provides horizontal viewing angles up to 105° and allows optimum scene coverage to be set during installation. Users can investigate regions of interest in real-time using the camera’s handy 3x optical zoom, and quick close-ups of the original image can also be obtained easily using 4x digital zooming.
Using a range of advanced imaging technologies, the camera can capture clear video footage in challenging lighting conditions. High-performance XDNR noise reduction is combined with advanced sensor technology to support the delivery of full colour images in light-levels as low as 0.006 lux. View-DR wide dynamic range (WDR) technology is also included and enables details in scenes with both bright and dark areas to be viewed clearly. Additionally, support for image stabilisation helps to reduce the effects of camera movement from wind or vibrations.
A range of configurable, video motion detection alarms are available to help alert users of activity and can be set to trigger recording to the on-board SD card (not included) – ensuring no vital footage is missed. Users can also connect external devices via the unit’s built-in I/O ports to help enhance alarm signalling. In addition, Sony's DEPA Advanced video analytics help to enhance scene awareness with rule-based alerts such as ‘passing’ and ‘intrusion’ – reducing the likelihood of false alarms for reliable security surveillance.
Support for Power-over-Ethernet Plus allows both power and network connection to be delivered to the camera via a single cable - simplifying installation. Local storage is also enabled with the use of an SD card (not included) which can be utilised as a data backup if network connection is lost. With both H.264 and Motion JPEG supported, the camera can compress files using the method best suited to the application.
