Overview of the Hikvision DS-2DE4220-AE3

This indoor pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) network camera from Hikvision features a 20x optical zoom, enabling the user to obtain a closer view of particular areas within the scene that are of interest. With an endless 360° pan and 90° tilt, this model is ideal for monitoring a large area with one camera that would normally require multiple fixed IP units. Capable of delivering HD 1080p resolution images at up 25 frames per second (fps), the camera also provides true day/night capability with an infrared (IR) cut filter. Additional features of this cost-effective model include a 1/2.8’ Progressive Scan CMOS sensor, on-board storage and support for dual streaming.

Featuring full PTZ functionality that allows for a wide area to be covered with a single camera, this model is a good surveillance choice for larger indoor areas such as warehouses and supermarkets. A further 16x digital zoom enables the user to investigate areas of interest within the image - ideal for identification purposes. The cameras compact design allows the unit to be positioned discretely within a scene making it suitable for areas that require unobtrusive CCTV monitoring.

The integrated IR-cut filter switches the camera image from full colour to black and white night-vision when sensors detect a certain level of low light, providing 24 hour surveillance. For scenes in challenging lighting such as dark shadows and bright highlights, wide dynamic range (WDR) ensures detail is captured in all areas and 3D noise reduction improves video quality in low lighting. In addition to these imaging features, backlight compensation is also available to help prevent areas of interest being silhouetted against bright backgrounds.

Two programmable privacy masks are available in this model that prevent operators from viewing certain areas of the camera’s view that may be private or sensitive, for example direct view of bathroom entrances.

The camera supports dual streaming and multiple H.264 and Motion JPEG video streams, enabling you to view a live feed in high-definition and record in a lower definition, saving on bandwidth and storage costs. Additionally, the built-in MicroSD card slot (card not included) allows up to 128GB to be stored internally on the camera, providing a back-up in the situation of a network failure and also allows the unit to be used as a stand-alone system. PoE+ reduces costs of maintenance of the camera and of initial installation.
