Overview of the Hikvision DS-2CD4185F-IZ

This Hikvision dome IP camera is capable of delivering 4K Ultra HD resolution at up to 22 frames per second (fps), complete with true day/night recording enhanced by infrared (IR) illumination. Its vandal-resistant housing is IK10-rated, making it ideal for monitoring exposed indoor locations. Additional features include on-board recording to MicroSD card and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE).

The unit’s varifocal lens (2.8mm – 12mm) offers horizontal viewing angles up to 96°, enabling wide area coverage with a single IP camera. In addition, the integrated IR LEDs provide up to 30m of infrared night-vision and for clearer viewing in low-light, Hikvision’s smart IR function adjusts the illumination according to zoom levels – helping prevent overexposure of objects close to the camera.

Additional imaging technologies such as digital wide dynamic range (DWDR) and 3D noise reduction are included to improve the quality of images captured in challenging light conditions. The camera also supports Hikvision’s rotate mode which vertically orientates the video stream to help maximise area coverage and reduce bandwidth when monitoring narrow scenes.

A range of video motion detection alarms such as line crossing and object removal can be configured to provide reliable security monitoring and alert users of possible incidents. The unit’s integrated I/O ports allow the connection of external devices to enhance alarm signalling, and a microphone or speaker can be connected through the audio I/O port to enable audio recording or the delivery of sound notifications.

Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) supplies the unit with both power and network connectivity via a single cable - resulting in a quick and cost-effective installation. Edge storage provides a handy backup of data if the network fails as recordings are written to the on-board MicroSD card (not included). The included Hikvision iVMS-4200 software provides users with a free video management solution and video can also be accessed remotely using the Hik-Connect mobile app for iOS or Android.
