How to do a factory reset of Axis 206/7 IP cameras

This is a small HOWTO: guide which will help you reset your Axis 206/7 IP camera should you forget the password and find yourself unable to connect.

This guide will be suitable for the following cameras:

  • Axis 206
  • Axis 207
  • Axis 207W
  • Axis 207MW

To perform a factory reset, do the following:

Step 1

Power down the camera. Leave for 30 seconds.

Step 2

Hold down the control button, and with the button held down connect the power. The control button can be found on the back of the camera and is in between the power and data inputs as shown on the below image:

Step 3

Keep the CTRL button held down until the LEDs on the front of the camera displays amber (this could take up to 15 seconds). You can then release the button.
Step 4

When the LEDs change to green (this could take up to a minute) your camera has been factory reset.

Step 5

To access the camera again you can either use the default IP address of or access the camera using the setup software which came on the CDROM with the camera.

You will be asked to set a new administrator password when you first log back into the camera.

If you only want to factory reset your camera to clear it back to defaults you can do this from the camera’s maintenance pages.

Enter the setup pages for your camera and in the left hand menu click ‘system options’ then ‘maintenance’. You will then be presented with the maintenance page which will show a button marked ‘Restore’. Click the ‘Restore’ button to return your camera back to factory settings.

    Hi Torben,

You may have a faulty camera then. I would suggest doing a further factory reset (in case the previous one did not take) as well.

  2. Torben says:

Kevin: I have tried root and pass but the Synology NAS (SurveillanceStation )says: Wrong username or password.
I have tried to access the cam in a browser ( – it also says: Wrong username or password
Btw: The LED never turns green

  3. Kevin Bowyer says:

It should be root and pass.

  4. Torben says:

I have tried to reset the 207w but I can’t get it to work with my Synology NAS (it needs username and password) – what are the default username and password after resetting the device?

  5. Me says:

Suppose I do not get amber and green lights. Not even the red one when something is wrong around the front lens.
When I put the power in, all that lights up is PWR & WLAN
I tried factory resets but the amber/ green / red lights never go on.
My router will not recognize it unless I hold down the hidden button.
The hidden button is to the far left and needs to be pushed with a paper clip or other small thin object.
Even so, the port will light up on my router but I can not access the camera.

So I would like to know if there is some way of re-flashing the firmware.

Im not sure what else to do at this point.

Using the above technique will reset your camera back to factory default settings but from your description it sounds as if you may have a problem with the hardware.

There is a problem with the image AXIS 207W is white center and edges of the image is color, look like a flash and can not see anything more than the outline, my question is, you can reset the camera physically to get the image again. Thanks for your help
