Overview of the Axis FA54 main unit

This Axis FA54 main unit supports the connection of up to four Axis FA sensor modules, allowing users to monitor closely situated indoor areas - in HD 1080p resolution. Handy connections such as HDMI output and I/O ports are also included which help to make this compact unit a very versatile choice for non-invasive monitoring. Additional features include dual SD card recording, Forensic WDR and support for remote viewing via the Axis Companion application.

The main unit can deliver up to four HD 1080p video streams at full frame and the quad view feature allows users to watch footage from all connected sensor modules simultaneously. Each sensor can be placed at a distance up to 8m away from the main unit – offering flexible installation options and allowing users to completely tailor the layout of their camera system. Additionally, a pack of four longer-length cables is also available (not included) which allows users to place each sensor module up to 15m away from the main unit.

Forensic WDR (wide dynamic range) technology helps to improve images captured in difficult lighting by compensating for bright lights and dark shadows – ensuring individuals and objects are clearly visible. Axis Corridor Format is also included and allows the monitoring of narrow scenes such as entranceways to be optimised by rotating the sensor 90° - preventing the recording of redundant areas.

A microphone and speaker (not included) can be connected through the audio I/O ports to enable audio recording and two-way communication. Audio and video motion detection alarms can be set to trigger MicroSD card recording and inform users of activity via email notification. In addition, alarm signalling is enhanced with the connection of external alarm sources via the integrated I/O ports and an HD monitor can be connected through the HDMI output to provide a simple PC-less monitoring solution.

The free Axis Companion application offers simple video management for up to 16 camera channels and is available as a PC client or mobile application for iOS and Android devices. This handy software provides remote access to live views as well as playback of recordings.

Axis' Zipstream technology is also included to help lower bandwidth and storage requirements. It does this by analysing and optimising the video stream in real-time, recording interesting detail in high quality, whilst filtering other areas out.
