Milestone XProtect Essential upgrade offer ends soon

XProtect Essential upgrade offerThis September, Milestone announced that starting from the 10th October 2016, Milestone XProtect Go was to be replaced by Milestone Essential as Milestone’s free VMS. This meant that Milestone Express would become the entry-level product in the “paid-for” software suite, instantly raising questions about the real impact of making Essential free.

To help customers migrate to the new system, Milestone introduced a special offer that runs until the 31st December 2016 – that wasn’t long to allow many customers to upgrade and time is running out to take advantage of this offer.

What’s the offer?

If you’re an existing Milestone XProtect Essential user and are looking to upgrade to Express, then there are some incentives that are available to you. If you already own a valid Milestone Care Plus plan, you can upgrade to Milestone XProtect Express for free. If you don’t currently have a plan in place then you can upgrade by purchasing three years of Milestone Care Plus at a 50% discount. This is a great opportunity for Essential customers to get an advanced service at a reduced cost.

Why upgrade?

By upgrading to XProtect Express you will be afforded a number of advantages including:

  • Access to new software versions – Ensures you can take advantage of new product functionality and performance improvements
  • Archiving of data to Network Attached Storage – A feature that is increasingly more important with the rise of higher resolution IP cameras (not supported by Essential)
  • Stay informed by using push notifications – These “push” notifications to your mobile device are only available with Care Plus (that’s costly going forward with Essential)
  • System expansion – Maintain the possibility of adding cameras to your current system
  • Support for third-party integrations – Enables you to combine video with other business systems, such as access control or point of sale systems
  • Support for Milestone Interconnect – XProtect Essential will not include support for Milestone Interconnect. Although this is more important to users at large sites, it’s a real consideration if you’re running Essential alongside your XProtect Corporate hub site

When weighing up Essential v Express some costs may not always be visible, until it’s too late. A system that has more than 8 cameras is certainly going to cost you far less using XProtect Express, and while it would appear to be cheaper to use XProtect Essential for smaller systems, missing features and the lack of Care Plus mean it’s not viable to use for protecting your business or organisation.

XProtect Essential 2013 has already been discontinued this October. XProtect Essential 2014 will follow on May 21, 2017 and by December 2018, Essential 2016 will also be discontinued. Additional camera licences and Care Plus for these VMS versions will not be available for purchase after their discontinuation dates.

Act now – take advantage of Milestone’s upgrade offer and make an all-round saving for the long term. If you’re an existing Milestone XProtect Essential user and need advice about upgrading, contact us – we’ll be happy to help.
