Axis has announced the forthcoming release of the world’s smallest HD pan/tilt/zoom IP camera, the M5014. According to Axis, the M5014 represents a significant development in covert security solutions, providing high-quality footage in a range of indoor areas.
The main difference between the M5014 and existing models like the 212 PTZ is a distinctly flat and compact design for discreet monitoring – it measures only 13 cm (5.1″) wide and 5.6 cm (2.2″) high. Despite its small size it maintains many of the features of its counterparts, including HD 720p image quality, H.264 compression (reducing bandwidth demands) and Power over Ethernet (data and power combined in a single cable).
It also features a built-in microphone with intelligent audio detection capability and an integrated micro SD/SDHC card slot allows users to record footage on-board the camera itself. With an IP51-rated casing, the M5014 is also resistant to dust and water droplets (e.g. sprinkler activation would not affect the camera’s operation).
The M5014 sounds like an interesting proposition, and with the market for a discreet surveillance presence increasing, we’re going to be keeping an eye on its release. The M5014 is expected in April/May this year.
