Panasonic Discontinue BL-C1 and BL-C20 IP Cameras

Panasonic BL-C101 Mini wireless IP security camera We’ve just heard that Panasonic are now officially discontinuing their BL-C1 and BL-C20 IP cameras.

This has been coming for a while as these models have already been replaced for a few months with the BL-C101 and BL-C121 respectively.

The BL-C101 and BL-C121 (wireless) offer advanced features over the old models, including:

MPEG-4 compression format: The BL-C101 and BL-C121 both include MPEG-4 video compression where the discontinued models only support MJPEG. MPEG-4 offers low-bandwidth streaming compared to MJPEG compression and this results in lower bandwidth use across the network and less storage requirements when recording. MJPEG is also available in the new models for maximum compatibility.

Full screen mode: Both of the new models have a new feature which will expand the image size to the full size of your monitor providing more efficient monitoring.

1-way audio: With an integrated microphone the BL-C101 and BL-C121 offers 1-way surveillance audio allowing the camera operator to hear sounds from the scene.

External input/output connector: The BL-C101 has an built-in input connector which allows alarms/events in the camera to be triggered by an external source such as a door/window sensor etc. The BL-C121 also has an external output which allows devices such as alarms and lights to be activated camera triggers.

Wireless Encryption: Unlike the discontinued models which only had support for WEP encryption, the cameras now support WEP (64/12/152bit), WPA-PSK (TKIP), WPA2-PSK (AES).

Detection Nofitication Alarm: Now whenever the camera raises an alarm you can have the computer play an audible sound through the speakers to alert the camera operator.

SSL Support: SSL encryption is now support which allows video to be sent more securely across the network.

IPv6 Support: To future-proof the camera it now includes support for IPv6 addresses. These Internet IP addresses are not readily used at the moment but will be used in the future to increase the number of available IP addresses the Internet can host.

These cameras are ideal for use around the home, for keeping an eye on the kids or elderly relatives or even as a pet cam. For more information on the latest models see:
