Glossary: RJ-45 Ethernet network connections

RJ-45 is the name for the telephone style plastic connector used on Ethernet cables when connecting IP devices such as IP cameras or computers. RJ-45 plugs are 10 x 5 x 20mm in size and have a lug to stop it being connected incorrectly. RJ-45 connections are either male (plug) or female (socket), with female usually being located on the network devices, and have 8 internal wires (4 pairs).
