Part of the affordable Axis M42 series, this unit provides smooth 3 megapixel resolution video footage at up to 30 frames per second (fps). It’s also housed in an IK08-rated casing to protect exposed indoor areas that may be prone to tampering. Other features include an HDMI output for live streaming to an HD monitor, Axis Zipstream technology and edge storage.

The unit’s varifocal lens offers horizontal viewing angles up to 100° and allows the user to easily set the viewing angle during installation. In addition, digital pan/tilt/zoom controls allow areas of the original image to be examined in greater detail. These regions, in combination with the camera’s multi-streaming feature, allow two specific areas to be cropped and streamed separately for live viewing or recording.

Axis Companion Software is supported and provides an easy-to-use video management solution for up to 16 IP cameras. This free software offers remote access to live views as well as playback of recordings and is available as a PC or mobile application.

Wide dynamic range (WDR) ensures the capture of details in high-contrast scenes, which noise reduction improves image captured in low light - reducing noise and blur to provide a clearer image. Using Axis Corridor Format, users can vertically orientate the video stream to help maximise area coverage and reduce bandwidth when monitoring narrow scenes.

Video motion detection alarms can be configured to enhance scene awareness and notify users of activity via notifications such as email. These motion detection alarms can also be set to trigger MicroSD card recording when using the Axis Companion mobile app.

Axis’ Zipstream technology is supported and helps to lower bandwidth and storage levels by an average of up to 50%. By optimising the video stream in real-time, important details can be retained while unnecessary data is removed. In addition, remote focus and zoom eliminate the need for hands-on fine-tuning and PoE compatibility means the camera can be supplied with both power and network connectivity over a single cable – simplifying installation.
